A fun spring coat is one of the best transitional pieces to take your wardrobe into spring. 

What will work well as a transitional coat?

• look for either a bright or a neutral colour (creams and beiges are another alternative if you are not into bright colours). A strong shade like the one in the featured coat will do 2 jobs – jazz up your wardrobe and offer practicality as wear & tear will not be noticeable like on a light coloured coat. 
• consider a coat with no lining – they drape beautifully, are light enough for when the weather gets warm and are very comfortable as the coat doesn’t restrict your movement as much as some lined styles do. 
• consider a coat in the midi-length – a lot of modern skirts and dresses are below the knee which can create challenges when styling them with shorter coats.
• midi length works very well for casual looks as it looks chic and polished. 

Now is a good time to buy a transitional coat, autumn is the best time to buy a winter coat.

I often hear from clients – should I get a coat or a trench?

Warmth-wise it is more or less the same if you go for an unlined coat. 

The advantage of a coat over a trench is that in most cases trenches can’t be dressed up past work looks, while a coat could work as an evening piece to go over dresses. 

If your wardrobe is quite casual, I would still consider getting a coat as it gives casual looks a modern streetstyle-like feel.
