THE TREND
Bottega Veneta is one of the biggest players on the fashion scene today. Quilted and woven bags are ultra popular now thanks to them and they’ve set another major trend in motion this season – square toe.
As you can see from the collages, the square toe was dominating Bottega’s designs for the last two seasons.
And here is the thing – when a brand this big takes on monopoly on half of the trends, there are other trends that form along based on their collection – such as quilted designs, kitten heels, barely-there strappy sandals, mesh detail, chain detail, toe loop and thong detail.
This pretty much sums up all the trends for spring/summer footwear this season! All worth exploring and dipping your toe in so check out styling ideas to see how you can incorporate them into your wardrobe!
STYLING IDEAS
One of the best things about the square toe is that you no longer have to suffer with your toes being squashed by the pointy toe (which is still on trend by the way)!
It’s not often that a trend can be so wearable and comfortable!
If you decide to go for the square toe in ankle boots, avoid the overly exaggerated squares if you want the boots to last for a few seasons (I have two pairs below that will do that no problem), but don’t be afraid to go all out with the sandals.
The square toe along with other trendy elements is super versatile when it comes to styling. Team any of this season’s sandals with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and your look will get an immediate stylish upgrade. Or add a flowy dress and a biker jacket/blazer for a modern feminine ensemble!
Square toe will stay here for a while, but if you don’t want to overinvest, then choose from the countless options on high street. That way you’ll play with the trend for couple of seasons without doing any damage to the budget.
Another great trend this season that is very easy to style is the kitten heel! You can give your looks a classy feminine touch without the risk of breaking your neck in stilettos. Small block heels are a sturdier option if needed and are very current as well.
Bottega Veneta made heeled mules super popular this season and it’s a really versatile shoe style that will go with jeans as well as pretty girlie dresses.
I’m very fond of all these trends as they bring 2 key aspects together: comfort and style. I’m not the one to compromise my comfort just for the sake of looking cool, so I love when comfy shoes are the season’s cool shoes!
The only style you have to be careful with are the strappy sandals. While they will co-ordinate beautifully with anything and everything in your wardrobe, keep in mind that the higher you’ll go on the heel, the trickier it will be to maintain the comfort aspect. So keep the heel low enough!
I’ve done a little edit of possible options for you below and they are all reasonable investments into the trend. There is a lot of colour as well as neutrals so you can find the right pair for your wardrobe.
You’ll see these styles in all high street stores, so if nothing jumps out to you from the edit, just keep an eye out in the shops as you now have a solid reference point!
DECIDING IF THIS IS RIGHT FOR YOU
If you are cautious about trends and don’t buy into them, I’d still highly recommend considering this one.
Accessories can be a deal maker or breaker when it comes to putting an outfit together and having a pair of edgy contemporary shoes will come in so handy this season!
If you want to play safe, then stick to a pair of mules with a low heel. They won’t date any time soon, will work with most pieces in your off-duty wardrobe and will give all your looks an edgy vibe! Just find a pair that fits comfortably and it will be a win-win addition to your wardrobe.
